My Wonderful Machine (MWM) is the haunting ambient musical duo of Jamin Belmont and Hope Henderson from Wilmington. The two developed an original sound that ranges from mod folk to experimental indie rock. Jamin, an acclaimed musician and the creative force behind atmospheric indie rock band Doly Toro and melancholy country group J Miners, met Hope and found in her a musical soul mate. With comparisons that range from Patsy Cline to Radiohead to Blonde Redhead to Leonard Cohen to Nancy Sinatra, MWM is an alluring atmospheric band with a seductive sound that will draw you in.

On Saturday the Cameron Art Museum commemorates the 146th anniversary of the Battle of Forks Road on the museum’s historic site with “Forks Road Battlefield Presents”, a look into preparations as the Civil War began. This year the sixth annual event focuses on the daily routine of newly enlisted soldiers during war time. Confederate, Union and U.S. Colored Troop reenactors are on site to provide a glimpse into the camp life of soldiers in the 1860s. The day also includes infantry and artillery demonstrations, artisans demonstrations, family art activities, and more. The CAM’s site is where Major General Robert F. Hoke made his last stand against Union soldiers comprised primarily of U.S. Colored Troops in the final fight for Wilmington on February 20, 1865. Step back into the present and enjoy our exhibitions and Museum Shop.

For schools interested in Friday’s schools-only event contact the Education Dept. 910.395.5999 ext. 1019 or e-mail: georgia@cameronartmuseum.com for more information.
